The Dance
An Invitation . . .
Yeah. Yeah. YEAH!
I know. I know. I KNOW!
I’m the guy who is on a sabbatical from blog posting. I know THAT. You don’t have to remind me. I’ll most likely resume my sabbatical right after this post.
But I want to write something serious before I resume my fast . . . something joyful too . . . something seriously joyful is what I want to be right now . . . and be that for always, as well.
My bride and I are reading a new devotional together each morning entitled “The Divine Dance - An Invitation to the Life of the Trinity.”
We got it as a Christmas gift from our dear friends Tim Smith and his wife Rita who produce a website called "Water from Rock", which you can access just by clicking on the underlined name that includes the hyperlink to their site. Tim is an ordained minister and founder of “Water from Rock” who writes and leads spiritual renewal groups in Scottsdale, Arizona. Tim’s bio on his website states . . .
Rev. Dr. Timothy Smith has dedicated much of his life to helping people grow in intimacy with God and experiencing spiritual renewal.
During his 35 years of ministering to people from various backgrounds as an ordained minister, chaplain (hospital, hospice, and prison) spiritual director, adjunct seminary professor, and retreat leader, Tim has experienced firsthand the renewing power of Jesus Christ.
His many experiences of renewal have taught him the need for connecting an intelligent biblical faith to a warm, heart-felt devotion to God. We must be people of head and heart, together.
Tim’s life has been both blessed and also heartbreakingly difficult. His first wife died when their family was young. His second wife left him. His third wife, Rita, has stayed and blessed their union that is now nearing the finish line for the both of them. But God has used their wounds for healing in others . . . and I am one whose life has been touched by this gracious couple.
In his newest devotional, Tim presents the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of the one true God as eternally existing in a Communion of Love, a Love so great that it bursts forth into a creation that is invited into “The Divine Dance” of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The only question is . . .
“Will YOU dance?”
“When the dancers took to the promenade
Well my heart leapt high
And I was unafraid
Of the feeling I’d stifled for so many years
Tell me how do you
How do you feel
Well the band took their places and got all in tune
And then the caller’s voice
Well it rang out beneath the moon
And then the boys took their girls and they started to reel
And they were singin’ how do you ~ how do you feel
And then the people in the town said that they’d call the police
If we didn’t keep down all this disturbin’ their peace
And Officer Black you know he answered their pleas
And he ran up on the hill just to see
Well he hid in the bushes just a stone’s throw away
And then we all saw this change comin’ over his face
But he was bouncin’ to the beat and started hoppin’ on his heels
Singin’ how do you do ~ how do you feel
And then the townspeople asked him if he’d make some arrests
Could they find peace and quiet so they could go back to bed
He said if it’s peace that you want, you’re gonna find it on the hill
But the silence that you keep is the silence that kills
So the townspeople all got so uptight and mad
You know they fired him on the spot
And then they threw away his badge
Then they asked him to leave and he said gladly I will
They said tell us now how do you feel
He said when the dancers took to the promenade
Well my heart leapt high and I was unafraid
Of the feeling I’d stifled for so many years
Tell me how do you ~ how do you feel”

Great post. Might look into that devotional. Funny, I end today’s post talking about the Divine Dance too. Merry New Years to you and Karen
